Bucovina is a huge workshop of creation, a warehouse of traditional folk art, of a major esthetic value. The historical and economical conditions, have contributed from the oldest times to the appearance and to the stability of the features of Bucovina's traditional folk art.

Bucovina was situated at the major commercial cross-road of Crimea, Asia Minor and Mediterranean basin, with the populations of Baltic land and central Europe, the trade roads being the main way of exchange in the domain of culture. Historically, Bucovina has represented the center of formation and existence of the feudal state organization of Moldavia, and, in the same time, the cultural centre of this state. The region, economically and geomorphologic, has offered a variety of condition that gave birth to a variety of occupations, all generating and sustaining the accomplishment of artistic creations in wood, fabric, pottery, leather, bone, metal.

The native creations confronted, in time, through the great trade roads, with the cultural possessions of some other great centers of civilization, enriching and proceeding the old traditions peculiar for the Romanian nationality, many of which are still preserved nowadays.
